Campaign 2: RTI: Empowering People, Eliminating Corruption

Empowering People, Eliminating CorruptionThe Right to Information Act, 2005 is one of the most path-breaking legislative measures of Modern India. A law that empowers the common man to get clarity on decisions and actions of the government, at all levels, across government departments at the panchayat, municipal, state and even central level. The Right to Information empowers a citizen to seek clarity on a range of issues that impact him.

But awareness of this critical legislation remains low. Many citizens remain clueless about the nuances of usage of the RTI Act. Others have cocooned themselves in the belief that the law is the exclusive preserve of social activists. Still others are in a state of apathy about the citizen's ability to impact governance.

Hence, this campaign 'RTI: Empowering People, Eliminating Corruption' seeks to inspire citizens to overcome their apathy, educate them about RTI as a powerful tool of citizen empowerment and help create an understanding of the manner in which RTI can be leveraged to bring greater transparency in the manner in which we are governed.

Campaign 3: RTE: Education is Every Child's Right. Ensure It

Education is Every Child's Right. Ensure ItThe Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE), is an Indian legislation enacted by the Parliament of India on 4 August 2009, which describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution.

Despite the RTE Act stipulating 25% free seats in class I (pre-primary) for children belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in all private unaided schools, many states including Odisha has turned out to be a laggard. Very less number of child belonging to weaker or disadvantaged groups is enrolled in class I in unaided primary schools in Odisha.

Hence, this campaign seeks to throw light on how children in the rural areas and the urban slums are being devoid of basic facilities in school. Their access to schooling is limited to the public/ Government school since private schooling is unaffordable for these families, most of whom are below the poverty line. ama adh!kar wants to bridge the enormous gap between what Constitution ensures and what the reality is.
